Joanne de Vries is a communications consultant who has worked with local governments throughout British Columbia since 1992 to help them connect with their residents about sustainability‐related topics such as community planning, water and wastewater management, air quality, energy efficiency, solid waste reduction, and transportation demand management. In 2006 she established the Fresh Outlook Foundation, the mission of which is to help build sustainable communities through enhanced communication and collaboration.

Michelle Bailly is a leading expert in performance enhancement through personal leadership. As an international speaker, coach, trainer, consultant, and singer, Michelle’s highly effective methods give people tools to exceed past performance, stimulate growth, accelerate learning, and improve well‐being.

For more than 25 years, Michelle has dedicated her life to the development of human potential and the full expression of our creative natures. She has applied her theories performing on stage at the London Opera House, Music Fest Thailand,and Spirit of Voice Ireland, as well as in Top 500 corporate boardrooms. Her studies include communication arts, neuro‐linguistic programming, accellearning, creativity methods, and voice work. She believes learning should be entertaining yet practical, and delights in combining her passion for the arts with her desire to produce successful bottom‐line results.

Stacy is an organizational, leadership, and sustainable community development consultant who has worked for more than 15 years with a wide range communities, non‐profit, and public‐sector organizations in Canada and Latin America. She has led a number of innovative development initiatives, created and delivered exceptional training programs, and helped to build the capacity and resilience of organizations and communities through her expertise in facilitation, strategic planning, organizational development, and sustainable community development.

Stacy is a dynamic and engaging facilitator who brings a wealth of experience designing and facilitating learning programs, multi‐stakeholder collaboration, and positive change processes. She holds a M. Ed. from Simon Fraser University, specializing in adult education, community development, and organizational learning.

Andrew Barton has more than 20 years experience as an Information Technology consultant. During that time he managed large IT projects in various industry sectors. In the 1990s, Andrew was an Internet pioneer starting a dial‐up ISP in rural British Columbia. He was also a founding board member with Columbia Mountains Open Networks, a non‐profit organization working to solve “last‐mile” telecommunications issues in the Kootenays. Later, Andrew worked with the newly formed Interior Health Authority and managed the consolidation of PC and printer infrastructure across the region. He then went on to lead process improvement projects based on the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL).

In addition to having a notable technology career, Andrew is also a talented photographer specializing in portraiture, landscapes, and commercial work. His images have been used in advertising material, as editorial content, and hang as fine art.

Andrew believes that to be an affective change agent he must build personal awareness about community sustainability. To that end, he is currently completing a degree in Geography at UBC Okanagan with a particular interest in the role of social narrative in environmental thinking. By merging web savvy, photographic and media skills, and a technical understanding of the issues, Andrew brings an effective and unique skillset to the S3 team.

Ben Chin

Ben Chin has more than 20 years experience in communications and public engagement. He is currently Vice President, Conservation Incentives at Air Miles for Social Change (AMSC), where he works with governments, public utilities, and agencies across Canada to build greater public engagement in energy efficiency and conservation. Air Miles For Social Change leverages the reach and power of Air Miles to cost effectively drive public participation in energy and water conservation, public transit, waste diversion, and healthy living.

Before joining AMSC, Ben was Vice President, Communications at the Ontario Power Authority, where he oversaw communications, corporate marketing, and government relations during the launch of Ontario’s feed‐in tariff for renewable energy. He has worked in the public sector, as Director of Media Relations in the Office of The Premier of Ontario, as well as in the private sector, as Vice President of Media Strategy at National Public Relations. Ben began his career as a broadcast journalist, working as a reporter and news anchor at City TV, CTV, and the CBC.

Marnie Douglas is a writer and communications strategist helping individuals and organizations build great stories and communicate messages in clear, natural, convincing language that people want to read. Marnie has more than 15 years’ experience in journalism and communications, including plain-language writing, communications planning, media relations, corporate event planning and speechwriting. Prior to launching Bold Communications in 2011, Marnie specialized in both employee and external communications at several natural gas and electrical utilities in Alberta and British Columbia as well as magazine publishing and writing for television.

Jan Enns is a communications expert who brings more than 20 years leadership and experience to her work with local governments and public agencies. After working for ICBC, the Regional District of Central Okanagan, and Interior health, Jan founded Jan Enns Communications to provide strategic direction for local governments and other public‐sector organizations. Putting her expertise into action, Jan has raised awareness and public participation through a variety of innovative and interactive programs, with a primary focus on solid waste management, public health, energy, and environmental issues.

Jan is a sought‐after speaker, providing tailor‐made interactive workshops for provincial and regional conferences. She is an annual speaker at the Local Government Management Association’s Municipal Administrative Training Institute (MATI) and an instructor for the University of Alberta’s National Advanced Certificate for Local Authority Administration. Jan also specializes in web‐based training for local government and public sector clients across North America, including BC’s Local Government Management Association.

Jan has a Masters in Applied Communications from Royal Roads University, a certificate in Local Government Administration from Capilano College, and certificates in Planning and Techniques for Public Participation. She is an active member in various community and professional committees, including the Okanagan Communicators Network, the International Association of Business Communicators, and the International Association of Public Participation.

Nene Kraneveldt is a community development specialist who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the S3 team. A member of the Hupacasath Nation (one of the 14 Nuu‐chah‐nulth Nations), Nene has worked with First Nations, aboriginal organizations, and federal and provincial governments for more than 15 years. As a First Nation’s change agent, she has first‐hand experience in aboriginal issues and has committed her entire professional career to improving social, community, and economic conditions for aboriginal people in British Columbia.

Nene holds a Masters Degree in Leadership and Training from Royal Roads University. As a lifelong learner she continues to build knowledge through continued academic pursuits and practical research opportunities. Since creating her business, Imagination FX, in 1999, she has been privileged to work with First Nations and aboriginal organizations across the country, providing support for capacity building, proposal writing, and program development. She is best known for her ability to build and maintain positive relationships with community organizations, funders, community members, and federal and provincial governments. Nene is also an acclaimed speaker, having spoken at national and international conferences and events.

An experienced policy analyst, she specializes in policy research and development with a strong focus on social policy. Nene works from the mantra “building individuals, families, communities, and nations one person at a time,” and enjoys co‐creating human, social, and economic development programming.

Jayna Lowe is an experienced marketing and communication professional. She has excelled in a variety of roles relating to project management, copy writing and cinematography since graduating with a degree in Communications from the University of the Nations in 2003. Jayna has worked for several marketing firms in the Okanagan, as well as for SKY TV (a major broadcasting corporation in New Zealand).

Jayna is currently Creative Director of Dream on Media, a Kelowna‐based marketing company she founded in 2009. Dream on Media offers strategic marketing solutions through web development, video production, copy writing, and print design.

Cam McAlpine runs PRMedia Strategic Communications, a BC‐based public relations consultancy providing support to public‐ and private‐sector clients in the practice areas of public relations, reputation management, stakeholder engagement, and community relations. Client sectors include infrastructure development, land‐use planning, energy, and resource management.

Cam has operated PRMedia full‐time since March 2004. Before that he worked for ten years as a journalist, during which time he won numerous provincial and national awards. In 2010, Cam won the Award of Excellence in Communications Management from the Canadian Public Relations Society, of which he is a member.

Pamela Miller has been advocating sustainable business for most of her adult life. Fifteen years ago, as owner of Lebens Restaurant, she purchased produce from organic farmers from the North, Central and South Organics Associations, hired a local baker to make daily organic bread for lunches, composted all food waste and catered a luncheon for 180 representatives of the BC Organics Association.

During her years at the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce (GVCC) Pamela wrote public policies that supported economic and environmental sustainability. These policies were passed by the BC and Canadian Chambers of Commerce and submitted to the applicable provincial and federal ministries. In addition, Pamela launched the eco-Chamber website, implemented on-site greening practices, wrote monthly green business articles and ran the eco-Chamber Social Media feed. As the GVCC Events Coordinator she organized over 30 annual events with attendance of between 25 to 500 people and coordinated sponsors for each event. With SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) she initiated the Green Business Award at the GVCC’s Annual Awards Gala.

Pamela’s undergraduate program at UVic and UBC, Vancouver was in architecture and languages and she completed urban design courses at SFU in Surrey. As the owner of Lebens Enterprise she aims to work with organizations that are making the greatest environmental sustainability impact in the business community. She is currently taking the Climate Smart course to measure, reduce and leverage the carbon footprint of major annual events at select hotels and conference centres.

Aura Rose is an engaging and trusted consultant with over 25 years experience, including three years overseas. Aura has worked for small to large businesses, provincial and federal governments, local non‐profits and larger organizations. Her skills flourish in work that necessitates collaboration, facilitation, and engagement of others, including community groups, management personnel, government representatives, and the media.

Involved in the corporate greening movement since 2003, when she sat on Interior Health’s Green Committee, Aura has worked with various organizations concerned with their environmental footprint, including Interior Health, the American GPO Novation, Practice GreenHealth, and the Provincial Health Services Authority. She is a Board Member of the Canadian Coalition for Green Healthcare, sits on the CleanMed 2012 Conference Organizing Committee, and is a member of the Okanagan Communicator’s Network. Aura speaks and writes regularly on environmental issues.
