Aaron Deans Aaron Deans - Executive Director, Allan Brooks Nature Centre

Aaron Deans is a terrestrial biologist and environmental educator. He is the Executive Director of the Allan Brooks Nature Centre, which is dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the Okanagan’s natural heritage. As principal biologist of EcoMotive Canada, Deans consults with industry, government, and the public on resource management and projects that impact the local environment. Deans is on the Steering Committee for Okanagan Collaborative Conservation Program, the Board of Directors for the North Okanagan Naturalists’ Club, and is a member of Vision North Okanagan. He and his family are resident caretakers of Bishop Wild Bird Sanctuary in Coldstream.

Dr. Adrian Parr Adrian Parr, PhD - Associate Professor, University of Cincinnati

Adrian Parr is an associate professor in the school of architecture and interior design and the department of women’s, gender and sexuality studies at the University of Cincinnati and the winner of the 2011 Rieveschl Award for Scholarly and Creative Work. She has published several books including Hijacking Sustainability, Deleuze and Memorial Culture, and New Directions in Sustainable Design. Her forthcoming book, The Wrath of Capital, will be published by Columbia University Press in 2012.

Alberto De Feo Alberto De Feo - Chief Administrative Officer, District of Lake Country

Alberto De Feo is the chief administrative officer for the District of Lake Country, BC. After immigrating to Canada from Italy in 1993, Alberto has held positions with local governments in Delta, Pitt Meadows, Langley and Williams Lake, prior to moving to the District of Lake Country. Alberto sits on the Local Government Management Association of BC board as first vice president and on the Central Okanagan Economic Development Commission board. He is also the past president of the North Central Municipal Officers Association, and the past president of the Association of Records Management Administrators of BC & Yukon. Alberto has a PhD in law and is an adjunct professor with the political science department at the University of Northern British Columbia, teaching local government administration, municipal policies and decision-making and public administration leadership and ethics.

Alex Boston Alex Boston - Senior Planner, Climate and Energy Services, HB Lanarc-Golder

Alex Boston is a senior planner, climate and energy services, with HB Lanarc. He has helped numerous communities develop and implement energy and emission management plans, supported the BC government’s 16 ministries establish their carbon neutral action plans, provided vulnerability analysis and adaptation guidance for developers and local governments, led research for the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Cities and Communities, designed educational tools for local government associations and utilities, and led change management training programs for public sector organizations. Prior to joining HB Lanarc, Alex led climate policy at the David Suzuki Foundation. He earned his MSc at Oxford’s Environmental Change Institute where he was a British Council Scholar.

Allisha Luther Allisha Luther - , UBC Okanagan Masters Graduate

Allisha Luther is a project co-ordinator with GreenStep Sustainability Coaching, a Kelowna-based company that helps businesses and communities find solutions to the sustainability challenges facing the globe. Allisha has also coordinated annual World Water Day events at UBC Okanagan.  Her passions focus on grassroots sustainability initiatives that educate community members about green lifestyle choices. She recently completed her master’s degree at UBC Okanagan with a focus on sustainability action planning for small communities in British Columbia.

Alyssa Bradley Alyssa Bradley - Environmental Lawyer, Young & Anderson, Barrister & Solicitors

Alyssa Bradley is a lawyer practicing in general municipal law at the firm Young, Anderson in Vancouver, BC. She is co-chair of the Canadian Bar Association B.C. Environmental Law Section and has spoken as a guest lecturer at seminars and courses on municipal law and planning law for the UBC Faculty of Law, the UBC School of Community and Regional Planning, Simon Fraser University and Capilano University. She has also spoken at the Rocky Mountain Land Use Institute at the Sturm College of Law in Denver, Colorado. Alyssa holds a bachelor of science degree in environmental biology from the University of Alberta and bachelor of law degree from the University of Victoria.

Aman Hundal Aman Hundal - Manager, Sustainability and Waste Operations, Interior Health Authority

Aman Hundal is the manager, sustainability and waste operations with the Interior Health Authority. Aman provides coordination, leadership, and engagement to over 18,000 staff spread over a large geographic region. Over the last seven years, Aman has worked in a number of roles within healthcare in various departments which has increased his understanding of healthcare. He has seen first-hand the impacts of climate change in Fort St. James, B.C., his childhood home. The changing snowfall patterns and the pine beetle infestation have been hard to ignore and Aman applies this awareness to his position. Aman holds a master’s degree from California State University, San Bernardino and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern British Columbia.

Amber Zirnhelt Amber Zirnhelt - Sustainability Manager, City of Campbell River

Amber Zirnhelt is the sustainability manager with the City of Campbell River, where she focuses on community sustainability planning, waste reduction, environmental management and energy management. Amber is one of the lead staff members managing the Sustainable Official Community Plan process. She is currently leading the City’s Carbon Neutral and Community Energy and Emissions Planning, and renewable energy projects including solar, tidal, and wind assessments. Amber holds a master’s degree from the University of Edinburgh, where she focused on community planning and engagement. Prior to working for the City of Campbell River, Amber worked for Sustainable Cities International, with more than 35 cities around the world engaged in long-term sustainability planning.

Andreas Røhl Andreas Røhl - Manger, Bicycle Program, City of Copenhagen

Andreas manages the City of Copenhagen’s Bicycle Programme (“Cykelsekretariat”) and has recently joined Urban Systems Ltd. in their Metro Vancouver office to participate in a range of active transportation projects throughout Western Canada, including the development of an Active Transportation Master Plan for the City of Vancouver. While with the City of Copenhagen, Andreas focused on bicycle policies and strategies to improve conditions for cycling; communication and marketing of cycling issues within Copenhagen and abroad; and working collaboratively with the other City departments, the bicycle industry, NGOs and other public institutions (education, health, tourist, etc) to promote cycling. Andreas recently led the completion of the City of Copenhagen’s Cycling Strategy as well as the City’s “Design Guideline to Great Cycle Roads” which provides direction on how to design cycle tracks, bicycle lanes, bicycle routes, crossings, and other features in the Copenhagen context. In addition to his in-depth knowledge of cycling infrastructure, Andreas also has extensive experience with cycling education and promotion campaigns and has spoken at many international cycling conferences.

Andrew Hay Andrew Hay - PhD - Vice President - Education, Okanagan College

Dr. Andrew Hay, P.Eng. is the vice president education at Okanagan College in Kelowna. He has a wide range of experience in science and technology, with a particular focus on engineering technology education. He is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C., the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologist and Geophysicists of Alberta, the Association of Applied Scientists, Technologist and Technicians of B.C., and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He is also represents the B.C. colleges on the Technology Education and Careers Council as a board member.

Andrew Moon Andrew Moon - Vineyard Manager, Tinhorn Creek Winery

Andrew Moon is vineyard manager at Tinhorn Creek Winery, south of Oliver, BC. Andrew oversees the 130-acres of estate vines in the South Okanagan and is responsible for such sustainable initiatives as a $1,000,000 drip installation project, converting the farm to biodiesel (the only one in the South Okanagan) and developing an innovative on-site compost program. Prior to moving to the Okanagan in 2009, Andrew worked for Ormonhill Vineyards, Colbinabbin Estate and Freeman’s Bridge Vineyards in Australia. He holds a trade certificate in Viticulture Brit Bendigo and a diploma in viticulture from Melbourne University and has completed three years of a bachelor of science degree at the University of Newcastle.

Angela Reid-Nagy Angela Reid-Nagy - CEO, GreenStep Sustainability Coaching

Angela Reid-Nagy is the CEO of GreenStep. providing sustainability consulting services to the business, non-profit and local government sectors, and for homeowners. From waste, energy and water assessments to detailed sustainability strategies, action and implementation plans, GreenStep delivers projects that work for our clients. GreenStep is licensed to deliver the Climate Smart program and the Green Table Network sustainability certification program for restaurants. From 2008 to 2011, Angela served as a Kelowna city councillor and currently sits on the boards of the Okanagan Greens Society and the Alberta Biodiesel Association.   She has been trained by former Vice President and Nobel Laureate, Al Gore, to deliver the Climate Reality Project, which she does on a volunteer basis.

Angus McAllister Angus McAllister - President, McAllister Opinion Research

Angus McAllister is president of McAllister Opinion Research. His firm uses an array of innovative research methodologies to help clients better understand what works and what doesn’t work in reaching customers, stakeholders and citizens. Angus has conducted telephone polling, online research and focus groups in over a dozen countries in the past 10 years. Clients include organizations like Shell, Suncor, BASF, Ford, DuPont, Nueva Group, Dep Schwarzkopf, Sarah Lee, Dundee Securities, WWF, Greenpeace, David Suzuki, Pew Trusts and various national government agencies. Prior to founding his firm, Angus McAllister served as vice president global research with Ipsos-Reid and vice president research with Environics International. He has a master’s degree and is a qualified member of ESOMAR, the international professional body for opinion research.

Ann Duffy Ann Duffy - Consultant, The Ann Duffy Group

With her 25 years of experience as a sustainability consultant, advisor, communicator, speaker and leader, Ann Duffy supports clients to deliver creative and sustainable solutions. She was the media spokesperson and architect of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Committee’s (VANOC) corporate-wide sustainability management and reporting system – an Olympic Games first. Ann led VANOC’s planning and engagement process to successfully implement environmental, social and economic bid commitments throughout the entire project. Previously, Ann was vice president, sustainable development - CH2M HILL Canada, where she established the firm’s sustainable enterprise solutions consulting practice and corporate social responsibility program. She was also instrumental in developing the official community plan for the City of Whistler.

Anna Warwick Sears Anna Warwick Sears, PhD - Executive Director, Okanagan Basin Water Board

Dr. Anna Warwick Sears is the executive director of the Okanagan Basin Water Board. She came to the organization in 2006 to develop the OBWB’s water management program, supporting the board’s efforts for Okanagan water sustainability. Before coming to the Okanagan, she was the research director of an environmental non-profit in California, leading large-scale watershed planning projects. Anna is particularly interested in using science to solve real-world problems and building bridges with community stakeholders. She received a doctorate degree in population biology at the University of California - Davis, studying competition for resources in arid environments.
