Andrew Barton has more than 20 years experience as an Information Technology consultant. During that time he managed large IT projects in various industry sectors. In the 1990s, Andrew was an Internet pioneer starting a dial‐up ISP in rural British Columbia. He was also a founding board member with Columbia Mountains Open Networks, a non‐profit organization working to solve “last‐mile” telecommunications issues in the Kootenays. Later, Andrew worked with the newly formed Interior Health Authority and managed the consolidation of PC and printer infrastructure across the region. He then went on to lead process improvement projects based on the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL).

In addition to having a notable technology career, Andrew is also a talented photographer specializing in portraiture, landscapes, and commercial work. His images have been used in advertising material, as editorial content, and hang as fine art.

Andrew believes that to be an affective change agent he must build personal awareness about community sustainability. To that end, he is currently completing a degree in Geography at UBC Okanagan with a particular interest in the role of social narrative in environmental thinking. By merging web savvy, photographic and media skills, and a technical understanding of the issues, Andrew brings an effective and unique skillset to the S3 team.
